Defining Moments – New Book Showcasing the Work of Photographer Tony Harrington

Defining Moments, the soon to be released book featuring the work of photographer Tony Harrington, may be the ultimate coffee table book for skiers, snowboarders and surfers. Harro is one of the most prolific action sports photographers and has been shooting snow and surf for over 40 years, always on the road chasing storms, swells and adventure.
Defining Moments brings together a vast collection of Harro’s work into one hefty volume with around 1200 pages of powerful images and inspirational stories gathered during his extraordinary and nomadic life.
I’ve been working with Harro for around 30 years and during that time I’ve edited Surfing World, Chillfactor and Powderhound magazines and he’s had plenty of covers on all three. Always reliable – this is a guy who’s dedicated himself to surf and snow, and he’s just so insanely prolific in both. In many ways Defining Moments is a four-decade timeline of the snow and surf cultures.
Harro’s a frother. He’s a super keen surfer, a super keen skier and brings his super keen energy to all his photographs and actually, to everything he takes on. His photographs capture the essence and culture of these sports, honouring the lifestyle and the characters as much as the action. His precision with a camera is one thing, the magic of his shots I think comes from the fact that he’s all in there with the person in the frame sharing these ‘defining moments’ with them, and that’s what this book is filled with.
I’m not surprised the book has grown into a monster, it must have been a challenge to narrow his gigantic collection of shots and stories to what he’s sharing here. I’m fired up to read it and it’s going to be a special collection for everyone in it and anyone on the planet with a connection to surf or snow.
