In January 2023, 14-year-old freeskier Theo Lansbury had just joined The North Face’s athlete development team and was eager to get experience filming while on a family ski trip in Japan. The stars aligned as the storm of the season coincided with an invitation to join film maker Dylan Robinson in the Nozawa backcountry.

“The storm had been raging for three days already and over a metre of fresh powder had fallen into Nozawa’s famous back bowls,” said Theo. “The deepest powder I’d skied up to that point was maybe boot deep, so when we dropped into the first line it was a whole new experience to be floating waist, chest and then neck deep on some turns.”

The result is an artistic edit titled ‘Doro’, a play on Theo’s full name Theodore that means ‘Gift’, in which Theo and Dylan wanted to capture the ‘Gift’ of skiing untracked powder and the beauty of the Japanese culture and mountains.
