Free Rider is the latest film from renowned director Jerome Tanon, starring big mountain pro skier Sam Anthamatten and three-time snowboard freeride world champ Victor de Le Rue.

It is a 35-mimute documentary shot in a remote corner of Alaska where the two athletes take on progressively steep and dangerous spines, Tanon posing the question – what is a free rider, what does it mean, if anything, or is it just an idea?

Consequential lines with no room for error – on the way up as well as on the way down

The story involves a small crew of five who are dropped off on a small glacier by light plane. establishing a base camp from where Anthamatten and De Le Rue (and the filmers) hike the peaks before dropping into some radical and consequential lines. This is big mountain freeriding at its most raw, where there is no room for error or hesitation.

Tanon’s honest and humourous narration is interspersed with snippets and thoughts from each rider, as the film delves into the emotions, fear and motivation of freeriders.

Victor de Le Rue on a line he described as “scary”

Sam Anthamatten and Victor de Le Rue are two of the best and the skiing, snowboarding and terrain in Free Rider are next level, captured by outstanding cinematography, the point of view shots and drone footage ramping up the drama and the viewer experience.
