New Zealand Forecast, July 8th – A Week of Sunshine for a Mid-Winter Summer Break
Mountainwatch | The Grasshopper
Published early Monday 8th July 2024
It was a sunny, but chilly and breezy weekend for South Island resorts – perfect for those who wrapped up warm and for the snowmaking teams who’ve continued to bulk up the snowpack.
The sunny weather will stick around all week, and those brisk southwesterlies will ease today (Monday) as a big lumbering high drifts onto the country. It’s like a mid-winter summer break, especially with all the kids on school holidays. The nights should also remain cool enough to make snow. So grab the kids and head up the hill for some fair-weather turns and a dose of vitamin D.
Monday July 8th
A fine day for all resorts, apart from a little morning cloud about the Southern Lakes. SW winds will also be rather brisk to start with, but that’ll gradually ease.
Tuesday July 9th
Another sunny day for all, with light winds and just a little high cloud over the South Island.
Wednesday July 10th
Sunny with light winds again.
Thursday July 11th
Sunny with light N-NW breezes.
Extended Forecast
The weather looks to stay mostly fine this weekend. However, northerly winds will pick up over the South Island as the high drifts away to the east and a front approaches, then stalls west of the country. The front will weaken before crossing the country around Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th July with just a bit of mid-high level snow falling.
That’s all from me today folks. The next forecast is Wednesday, see you then and have a great couple of days.
