Snow Journal | Matt White

Kia Ora Everyone!
Hope you are all enjoying the new snow that has fallen upon us over the past week, its been great to get some powder turns in finally! Some really heavy rain has caused some significant snowfalls in the Canterbury region.. Mt Dobson just keeps getting nailed by every storm that rolls through and is currently our leader in snow depth with a solid 2.5m base, Mt Hutt got a casual meter of fresh goodness too over the week and even though the rest of the country got much smaller top ups we’re not complaining thats for sure!

Looking ahead to this week it looks like we have more snow on its way so get those powder skis/board waxed up and ready to roll, Wednesday Thursday are looking like good days to cash in some sick leave!

North Island

Whakapapa/Turoa/Tukino– Cloudy with snow showers to 1500m and a few fine patches all the way through to Wednesday clearing to blue skies and light winds for the remainder of the week.

South Island

North Canterbury
Rainbow/Hamner Springs/Mt Lyford– A foggy start to the morning tomorrow, snow showers developing on Sunday and continuing through to Tuesday evening where it will clear up but there will still be a chance of rain showers for Wednesday/Thursday.

Canterbury
Temple Basin, Broken River, Cragieburn, Cheeseman, Mt Hutt, Porter Heights, Mt Olympus– Foggy in the morning tomorrow, Snow showers ease in Sunday night and continue in patches for Monday-Tuesday and should clear up to blue skies for Wednesday onward.

South Cantebury
Fox Peak, Mt Dobson Round Hill, Ohau– A foggy morning for Saturday with snow showers rolling in overnight and may stick around as long as Tuesday afternoon and then clearing up for Wednesday/Thursday

Southern Lakes
Treble Cone, Cardrona, Snow Park/Snow Farm, Remarkables, Coronet Peak– Same as the rest of the South Island, a bit of fog for the morning tomorrow with some snow showers developing on Sunday and continuing through Tuesday with Wednesday/Thursday looking set to be blue bird.
