The Australian snow resorts received an unexpected snowfall across the weekend, with between 5cm and 15cm reported at the resorts.

Temperatures were considerably below average around NSW and Victoria on Saturday; snow fell in, amongst other unexpected places, Canberra and Omeo, and the capital cities experienced an unexpected return to winter with chilly winds sweeping through Sydney and a low temperature of just 4.7 degrees in Melbourne – the lowest for the month.

The return to winter was temporary however, the snow has already melted from the slopes and the resorts are making the switch to summer business with golf courses, tennis courts and walking tracks open.
