South Island Photo POWDER Report – EPIC 2m Storm

Not a good day to have run off the road

With a week’s worth of an insane storm flowing over the country our desolate looking ski season has been transformed into what could be one of the best starts ever.. even if it is a few weeks late!

Not often does every resort prosper from the same storm but this one has done just that, resorts such as Treble Cone and Temple Basin who couldn’t open last week are now faced with over 2m of fresh snow posing a very high avalanche danger. Rainbow Cragieburn, Broken River, Manganui and both Whakapapa and Turoa have all reached the 1m + mark… And there are a few more not too far off that. It feels like ages ago that we were all begging for snow and now everyone I catch up with is frothing on how quickly circumstances have changed… some are going a little stir crazy being stuck indoors for so long but at the end of the day it’s all good! If you haven’t booked a flight over here yet I’d be getting my act together because we aren’t going to be saving any freshies.. no friends on a powder day!
