Mountainwatch | Interview

This interview was recorded late in the 2019 winter when Reggae Elliss sat down with Australian ski legend Steve Lee to  talk about his life – growing up in Falls Creek, heading overseas in his mind-teens to follow his ski racing dream, his long and successful career has a World Cup downhill racer, including three Olympics and all the highlights along the way.

Since he retired from ski racing, Steve has carved out a life that revolves around skiing and the mountains operating backcountry tours in Falls Creek and Hakuba. Throughout all that time Steve’s love of skiing has never waned and he is out there most days, firmly believing there is no such thing as a bad day on the hill.

Steve has quite a story to tell, the story of one of Australia’s greatest ever skiers.

Steve sadly suffered a serious stroke in early September and he has a long way to go in his recovery. His family and friends have launched a fundraising  campaign called #steveleefightback and you can help support Steve’s recovery at https://asf.org.au/donate/snow-australia/steve-lee-fightback/
