Kiwi freeskier Jossi Wells first launched this event back in 2016 and since then the Jossi Wells Invitational has evolved into one of the highlights on the freeski and snowboarding calendar.
Held in Cardrona each September, JWI hosts some of the world’s best freeskiers and snowboarders and is rider-judged event, a week-long jam session with no particular format and a grassroots vibe.
This year’s event was held a couple of weeks ago, the invited riders making the most of a few days of good weather and snow in Cardrona’s world-class park. This short film gives you an insight to the JWI and the motivation and philosophy behind it.
“The reason for starting JWI was to bring together a bunch of my friends from the ski and snowboard world,” says Jossi Wells. “Have a week together where we’ve got to shred. Have a great time. Foster creativity within our respective disciplines. Basically, just hanging out with the homies is kind of the whole point of it.”
