The Cover Story

Rider: Nick Gregory

“Backcountry soul shredding is all about getting creative with mother natures natural terrain, but it’s wise to scope your line before sending it. My first hit on this wind lip I took a bad line and ended up in a violent rag doll over some of New Zealand’s finest razor sharp rocks. Unsatisfied with my effort I re-launched this bad boy with my golly-wog hair doing its thing in the breeze. Dream living!”

Photographer: Vaughan Brookfield

“We were in the clubfields just outside Christchurch NZ when a storm dropped a foot of fresh powder over the mountains. We headed up to Mount Cheeseman and straight into the backcountry, Nick spotted this natural wind lip in the distance. He came flying into it with what looked like way too much speed – his massive mop of hair whipping in the wind. It was early in the day and the windlip was naturally lit from the side, which worked really well for the shot. I got down low and shot towards the sun a little so the puff of snow would show up well on his take-off. Nick’s rock star mop of hair adds another dimension to the steez of his riding that combine to make an amazing image.”
