There’s only one road connecting Wanaka to the West Coast of New Zealand. For those that look a little deeper, the road provides access to some of the most rugged mountains in the country. This is West of Wanaka.

This 100% GoPro short film follows 3 mates looking to break the mould of a regular weekend. Skiing the terrain that the road west of Wanaka offers them.

“For most the road is a scenic way to get from point A to B, but for those who look a little deeper the road provides access to some of the most stunning and rugged mountains in New Zealand. Just as the snow-melt from these mountains eventually makes its way to the ocean so does the road.

“The tar seal, after snaking through valleys eventually meets the black sand of the isolated West Coast. Here the many sand banks and river mouths are fed by southwesterly ground swells that provide waves to those who have the time and knowledge to find them.”- Miguel Porteous
