Filming the action for for any ski or snowboard always involves the athletes having a number of crashes, some of which are quite heavy.

As this “crash reel” from the Faction Collective’s feature film Roots shows, the perfect landing doesn’t come easy, even for some of the world’s best freeskiers. From over-rotating the trick to mis-judging the landing, crashing is all part of freeskiing and heading back up for another hit is what pushes the sport to new heights.

Everyone loves a crash reel, here are  some of best of the worst crashes that went into gathering the final footage for Roots.
