Valid Monday 7thSeptember – Thursday 10thSeptember

After some fresh snow fell last night and over the weekend, a ridge of high pressure is providing kiwis with another magical clear sunny day today.

It’ll be much the same tomorrow, before a cold front slowly works it’s way up the South Island, dumping 10-25cm over the Southern Lakes late Wednesday and 15-25cm over Canterbury during Thursday. The Kiwi season is finally starting to soar!

Note: The detailed forecast below is for ski fields in Canterbury and the Southern Lakes.

Monday 7th

A blue bird, magic day with freshies to find. S-SW winds gradually easing.

Tuesday 8th

Nuthin’ but sunshine! Westerly winds becoming strong over the Southern Lakes, but they will remain light over Canterbury.

Wednesday 9th

Rain developing over the Southern Lakes during the afternoon, falling as snow on mid-upper slopes. Snow will then lower to base levels in the evening as winds swing around to a cold southwesterly.

A fine start in Canterbury with strong-gale NW winds, then mid-high cloud will increase.

Thursday 10th

Cloud and any remaining snow flurries over the Southern Lakes will clear to a fine day with cold southerly winds.

Snow developing over Canterbury in the early hours as cold southerly winds kick in, becoming fairly heavy during the morning, and then easing from afternoon. You Beauty!

 Extended Outlook

A ridge will clear up skies nicely on Friday for another one of those ‘best days of the season’ days.

From Sunday through to mid-late next week, a series of cold fronts look to cross NZ in a disturbed, wintry westerly flow. Snowfalls are looking very sweet indeed, and will further improve conditions for the spring end of the Kiwi season.

That’s all from me today, guys.
