The 2nd Annual Transfer Banked Slalom – Photos and Official Video

August 18th, 2015

It was overhead all day as competitors flew through the barrels at the top of the course. There was plenty of support for Mick Fanning, too. Richie Carroll pig-doggin’ through his exit Image:: Thredbo

There is no other event on the Australian Snowboarding calendar that’s capable of bringing so many generations together to compete on the one course, on the one day, and in the spirit of one event, like the 2nd Annual Transfer Banked Slalom did on Saturday August 15 in Thredbo.

It’s the ability of this event to bring the tribe together that makes it so iconic, and that’s exactly what it did in its second annual edition. With a perfect course, perfect weather and perfect vibes, we’re already looking forward to next year.

WATCH NOW:

For those who don’t know, the Banked Slalom sends snowboarders down a hair-raisingly long course of winding banked berms, icy rollers, through a leg-burning gully and then slingshots them out of the bottom of the course where they are awarded a time of somewhere between 1:20 and 2:00 minutes. It’s a unique test of snowboard skill, and one that’s looked forward to by our top professional snowboarders and weekend-hacks alike – it’s an event format that is proudly unique to snowboarding.

As the hangovers start to wear off, a very heart-felt thankyou goes out to Thredbo Resort and all our event supporters: Lib Tech, Quiksilver, Roxy, Mizu, Goal Zero, Oyuki Snow and Corona. Special thanks also to Mammoth Mountain – another Mountain Collective resort – who awarded Richie Carroll with the “Spirit of the Event Award” – redeemable for 3 nights accommodation and lift tickets during the 2015/16 season. Massive props also to Angus Thomson, Philippe Lahey, Reuben Cameron, Matt Galina, Thommo and all the rest of the crew from Thredbo Terrain Parks who worked tirelessly to hand-sculpt the most creative and fun Banked Slalom course Australia has ever seen.

If you missed any of the action on the day, sit back and flick through a selection of the best images below…

The first turn was aptly named “The Eliminator” after the carnage that unfolded there last year. In 2015 the first corner was a backhand barrel that still served up plenty of entertainment for the spectators Image:: Horvath
