Australian Forecast – Chilly Winds till Sat, Sunny & Warmer Sun & Mon

Published early Friday, 1st August 2025

Chilly winds from the southeast have brought clouds and a little snow to the Aussie Alps over the last couple of days. The snow guns have also had a decent run, making up for some lost ground on the lower slopes after the last storm gave them a drenching. Snowpack conditions are looking great as we head into the second half of the season.

Chilly winds continue until early Saturday, bringing more cloud and light snowfall, but it’ll start warming later on Saturday, turning things damp down low again. A ridge of high pressure then clears things up nicely for Sunday and Monday as warmer northerlies pick up.

Friday 1st August

Chilly east to southeast winds push in cloud and snow flurries again, especially during the second half of the day.

Saturday 2nd August

Fairly cloudy again, especially in New South Wales, with light snowfalls gradually turning wet about mid-lower slopes. However, Mt Buller is likely to stay dry. Brisk easterly winds in Victoria and strong southeasterlies in New South Wales.

Sunday 3rd August

A clear, sunny day in Victoria as a mild northerly breeze develops. Cloud in New South Wales also eventually clears as brisk easterlies ease and turn northwards.

Monday 4th August

A nice, sunny day as warmer northerly winds pick up.

Extended Forecast

On Tuesday, a front from the west won’t do us much good as it’ll only bring a dusting of high-level snow after an initial bout of strong northerly winds and rain.

Models are in better agreement that the next front will fizz before reaching us the following day, Wednesday the 6th of August, bringing just light snow showers at best. However, the cold temperatures it brings will be a boon for the snow guns, which may get a good run as high pressure is then expected to move in with settled weather at least through to the end of the week, with clear, cold nights.

That’s all from me today, folks. I’m sending out these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the season. Have a great weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday.
