Australian Forecast – Dream Run Continues with More Snow on the Way

We’ve had a dream run of clear, crisp winter conditions after the midweek storm gave resorts a 15-25cm boost, with Mt Baw Baw topping the charts at 32cm. The super cold temperatures that followed dried out the snowpack nicely and allowed the snow guns to further bolster the groomers. The season is now in full swing with lots of terrain open for great turns on and off piste, and the snow parks are all set up and ready for shredding.
Northwest winds pick up today (Sunday) ahead of a weak cold front that crosses on Monday morning, bringing light snowfall into the early, predawn hours of Wednesday. This will freshen up the slopes with another 5-10+cm of powder.
High pressure then pushes in for another couple of dreamy, clear, cold days to end the working week, and the snow guns will get another good run.
Sunday 2nd August
Mostly sunny skies with a little cloud here and there as north-to-northwest winds strengthen.
Monday 3rd August
Light snowfall comes and goes throughout the day, giving us fresh refills, although it may start off wet below 1500-1600m, especially in New South Wales, before a weak cold front crosses during the morning. Strong, chilly northwesterlies back off behind the front.
Tuesday 4th August
Occasional light snow showers and flurries continue, keeping the slopes nice and dusty. Cold west-to-northwest winds will also have the snow guns firing.
Wednesday 5th August
Any remaining snow flurries clear early, then clouds gradually break up with increasing sunny spells as cold west-to-southwest winds die away.
Thursday 6th August
A gorgeous, sunny day with little to no wind. Cold snowmaking temps early morning and at night for perfect corduroy on piste.
Extended Forecast
Friday will be another gorgeous, fine day as high pressure drifts east over the Aussie Alps.
The storm window opens up again this weekend with northwest winds strengthening ahead of a strong front expected to cross on either Sunday the 9th or Monday the 10th of August, with the potential for a solid dump of powder. One or two weaker systems may come through over the following few days, bringing some extras to top it all off.
High pressure likely returns through the back half of next week, for another great run of settled weather.
