Cody Townsend and cinemaphotographer Bjarne Salen are back with the fourth season of one of our favourite web series The Fifty, which documents Cody’s ambitious project to climb and ski all 50 lines named in the book The 50 Great Ski Descents of North America.

Typically, Cody kicks off the season with a line that is not “a gimme”, one he describes as “super remote, super deep and incredibly challenging” – Comstock Couloir in the backcountry of Rogers Pass, British Columbia, Canada, outside of Revelstoke.

It is a big three-day expedition that required a 14.5km walk covering 2133.6m vertical, an overnight camp, exposed ridge walking and technical climbing. Comstock is a 914-metre line with a skiing pitch of 45-50 degrees.

Cody and Bjarne are joined on the mission by Kiwi big mountain skier/mountaineer Sam Smoothy and local legend Greg Hill, and Comstock Couloir proves to be as difficult and challenging as you’d expect.

Another great episode of The Fifty, one that illustrates the importance of calm decision-making in the mountains and a great way to kick off season four.

Co-Starring: Greg Hill, Sam Smoothy & Mali Noyes.

The Fifty documents Cody Townsend’s journeys, travels, challenges and each line and mountain listed in the book, The 50 Classic Ski Descents of North America. It’s a journey through the most majestic mountains and ski lines in North America along with a unique insight into how skiers make decisions in the backcountry, how they plan, navigate and safely move through the mountains and the people that dedicate their lives to the mountains.
