This Saturday, July 8th, Cardrona is hosting the ‘Butter Bean Rail Jam’ in loving memory of Sam Finnemore.

Formerly known as the McPark Double Down Rail Jam, the jam draws some of the best local talent up to Cardrona Parks. This year the jam has been renamed in honour of the late, young snowboarder, Sam Finnemore. Sam tragically passed aged 19 in November last year, a shock to all around him.

Sam’s accolades included podium finishes at national age group level including winning the Auckland Secondary Schools Snowboarding Championships and winning an international FIS slopestyle event at Cardrona in 2019.

Though hailing from Aukland in the North, Sam was quickly accepted like family into the Wanaka snow sports community. The Wanaka community have planted a memorial forest for Sammy on the way up to Cardrona Saturday will be a fun day in the mountains with friends as a tribute to Sam’s love of snowboarding and involvement in the Wanaka community.

The Butter Bean Memorial Rail Jam kicks off at 12pm and will run till 3pm on a specially built feature on the lower section of
McDougall’s trail.

There’ll be cash on the line and prizes up for grabs from event sponsors Burton, Volcom, Skullcandy, Pit Viper and Cheapshates. Everyone is welcome to come snowboard, ski or
spectate. There’ll be an after party at The Lounge from 3-5pm with a DJ and live music.
