Australian Forecast – A Dollop of Rain and a Shot of Snow Tuesday & Wednesday

Published early Monday, 4th August 2025

We had a mix of sunshine and damp, cloudy conditions over the weekend, which finally cleared as up on Sunday as the prolonged southeast flow finally came to an end. The weather will stay nice today, Monday, as warm northerlies strengthen ahead of a couple of weak fronts crossing us on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing a dollop of rain and a dusting, or small shot of snow. A ridge of high pressure then builds during Thursday and Friday, bringing mostly sunny skies by day, and cold temps overnight that should have the snow guns firing.

Monday 4th August

A nice, sunny day as warmer northerly winds strengthen. However, clouds build over Victoria from afternoon with showers developing there at night.

Tuesday 5th August

Rain becomes widespread early morning as a front from the west passes over. The rain then gradually clears throughout the day as clouds disperse and strong northwest winds abate. The tops will pick up a dusting of snow on the tail end of the front, and then snow flurries will develop in Victoria to lower levels at night.

Wednesday 6th August

Another weak front passing over from the west will bring a period of snowfall to around 1500-1600m, with about 2-8cm accumulating. Brisk northwesterlies turn a colder southwest behind the front.

Thursday 7th August
A mostly fine day as cold southerly winds ease, although Mt Baw Baw will likely see a fair bit of cloud.

Friday 8th August

A nice, sunny day with an east-to-southeast breeze.

Extended Forecast

The ridge of high pressure will keep a lid on things for the weekend with cold overnight temps keeping the snow guns busy. A cold front passing over next Tuesday, the 12th August, is expected to give us another shot of snow about the upper and possibly mid slopes, followed by a day or two of settled weather and more great snowmaking conditions.

That’s all from me today, folks. I’m sending out these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the season. Have a great couple of days, and I’ll see you back here on Wednesday.
